Niger Delta Stakeholders Back Regional Investment Ecosystem

The Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, and the governments of the nine Niger Delta states have been identified as key development partners in building a sustainable regional investment ecosystem.

The Board Chairman of the Niger Delta Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Trade, Mines and Agriculture, NDCCITMA, Idaere Ogan, stated this while addressing newsmen in Port Harcourt, the capital of Rivers State, south-south Nigeria.

Ogan reaffirmed the commitment of NDCCITMA to host a successful Niger Delta Economic and Investment Summit, scheduled for September 15 to 17 in Port Harcourt.

He described the summit as a strategic, private-sector-led platform designed to mobilise investments and unlock the economic potential of the region under the theme, “Driving Investment, Innovation and Industrial Growth in the Niger Delta.”

According to him, the summit would bring together the nine Niger Delta states, the Nigerian Government, NDDC, the organised private sector, development finance institutions and other strategic partners to promote regional economic transformation.

He noted that the region possessed enormous opportunities beyond crude oil, citing gas and petrochemicals, agriculture, maritime and blue economy, manufacturing, renewable energy, tourism, digital economy, logistics as well as infrastructure.

Investment Opportunities

The Chamber’s chairman said that the summit would showcase investment opportunities in agro-industrial and oil-palm value chains, gas utilisation, transportation, aviation, maritime infrastructure, industrial hubs, renewable energy, manufacturing and digital infrastructure.

The counsel to NDCCITMA, Mr Sammie Somiari, SAN, assured that the organisers would conduct the summit in line with applicable laws and regulatory requirements, adding that there was no legal impediment to its planned activities.

Also speaking, the NDDC Director of Commercial and Industrial Development, Mrs Lyna Okara, said the summit would strengthen economic integration among the nine Niger Delta states.

The summit generate investment commitments, project partnerships, financing opportunities, policy recommendations and clearly defined implementation frameworks,” she added.
