The Nigerian Government has officially launched a National Digital Alphanumeric Postcode System aimed at improving location identification and expanding access to economic and public services across the country.
Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr Bosun Tijani, said the system, launched by the Nigeria Postal Service (NIPOST), would provide a foundation for more efficient delivery of goods and services.
According to Tijani, accurate postcodes could help small businesses reach customers beyond their immediate neighbourhoods, enable families to receive emergency assistance more efficiently and support government efforts to deliver essential services to communities.
“Every Nigerian deserves to be found. Every business deserves the chance to reach its customers. And every community deserves to be within reach of opportunity,” the minister said.
He described the initiative as an important step towards creating a more connected Nigeria, particularly as the government works towards President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s ambition of building a $1 trillion economy.
Dr Tijani said reliable digital addressing would help create the infrastructure needed for more Nigerians to participate in commerce, access services and benefit from emerging economic opportunities.
