Nigeria and Mali have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and deepening cooperation on issues of mutual interest.
This was disclosed in a statement by the Special Assistant on Communication and New Media in the Office of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr Magnus Eze, following the presentation of copies of the Letters of Credence by Nigeria’s Ambassador-Designate to the Republic of Mali, Ambassador Geoffrey Ijomah David Chima, to Mali’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Abdoulaye Diop, in Bamako.
Dr Eze said the presentation was followed by bilateral discussions on ways to enhance cooperation between the two countries.
During the meeting, Nigeria and Mali reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening diplomatic consultation mechanisms as part of efforts to promote a more productive and mutually beneficial South-South partnership.
“They also discussed the evolving geopolitical situation in the sub-region, with particular emphasis on enhancing collaboration in the fight against terrorism and other security threats,” Dr Eze said.
They stressed the importance of closer coordination and collective action among African countries in addressing security challenges confronting the region.
Both parties underscored the need for solidarity, constructive political dialogue and mutual trust among African states, describing these as critical to advancing regional peace and stability.
They further emphasised that stronger cooperation and sustained dialogue would contribute to addressing shared challenges and promoting sustainable development across the sub-region.
The engagement between Ambassador Chima and Minister Diop reflects Nigeria and Mali’s shared interest in maintaining diplomatic dialogue and exploring areas of cooperation that can contribute to peace, security and development in West Africa.
