The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) is set to host a three-day International Youth Day (IYD) 2026 programme aimed at strengthening youth leadership, responsible citizenship and police-youth partnerships in Nigeria.
The programme, scheduled for August 20 to 22, will feature corresponding activities across Zonal and State Commands nationwide.
With the theme “Different Contexts, Common Aspirations,” the initiative is designed as a preventive policing strategy that empowers young Nigerians to contribute positively to national development and promotes safer, more peaceful communities.
According to the Force, in a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer. CSP Ani Iniedu, the programme will provide platforms for youth leadership dialogues, Police-Youth engagement sessions, panel discussions, innovation and entrepreneurship showcases, as well as activities promoting peace, security and responsible citizenship.
Other highlights include a peace and security walkathon, novelty sporting activities and a nationwide tree-planting exercise tagged “Plant Peace. Grow Nigeria. Secure the Future.” Youth honours and awards will also be presented during the programme.

The Force is expected to launch Esteemed Youths: A National Youth Reorientation Resource, a publication aimed at supporting the reorientation and empowerment of young Nigerians, on August 22.
Two nationwide campaigns will also be unveiled as part of the initiative.
The first, “My Future Is Greater Than Political and Digital Thuggery,” seeks to discourage political violence, electoral thuggery and digital manipulation among young people.
The second, “Think Before You Click. Verify Before You Share,” focuses on responsible digital citizenship and seeks to raise awareness of misinformation, disinformation, cyberbullying, and the misuse of emerging technologies.
The Nigeria Police Force urged government ministries, departments and agencies, development partners, diplomatic missions, youth organisations, educational institutions, civil society groups, faith-based organisations, the private sector and members of the public to participate in the programme.

Reaffirming its commitment to preventive policing, the NPF said sustained engagement with young people remains critical to building a peaceful, secure and prosperous Nigeria.
