Nigeria Reaffirms Global Partnership for Women, Inclusive Development

By Glory Ohagwu, Abuja

Nigeria has reaffirmed its commitment to partnering with the international community to accelerate gender equality, empower women and girls, strengthen families, and drive inclusive development through innovation.

The Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajiya Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, stated this during bilateral engagements on the sidelines of the 9th Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Ministerial Conference on Women, themed “Socio-Economic and Political Empowerment of Women in the OIC Countries: Challenges and Way Forward.”

During separate meetings with Egypt’s President of the National Council for Women, Minister Amal Ammar, and Pakistan’s Parliamentary Secretary for the Ministry of Human Rights, Saba Sadiq, the minister urged OIC member states to deepen cooperation and identify practical areas of collaboration that would advance the welfare of women, families, and vulnerable groups.

The discussions focused on strengthening women’s role in family cohesion, expanding socio-economic opportunities, reinforcing legal protections for women and vulnerable persons, and promoting partnerships that create an enabling environment for women to realise their full potential.

Sulaiman-Ibrahim said sustained collaboration among OIC countries would accelerate inclusive growth and translate shared commitments into tangible gains for women and families across member states.

The bilateral engagements further reinforced Nigeria’s resolve to champion collective action and strategic partnerships aimed at advancing women’s empowerment and sustainable development across the OIC.
