By Margaret Ebeshi

Nigeria and Sweden have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations, with a focus on innovation, digital technology, culture, and economic cooperation.

This was the outcome of a meeting between the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, and the Swedish Ambassador to Nigeria, Anna Westerholm, in Abuja, Nigeria

The discussions reviewed the long-standing relationship between both countries and explored new opportunities for collaboration in emerging sectors, including digital innovation, information technology, the creative economy, film production, gaming technology, and the broader digital ecosystem.

Ambassador Odumegwu-Ojukwu highlighted the importance of cultural diplomacy in promoting mutual understanding, strengthening bilateral ties, and creating economic opportunities through the creative industries.

She reiterated Nigeria’s commitment to attracting foreign investment and fostering partnerships that “support economic growth, industrialisation, job creation, and sustainable development.”

Ambassador Westerholm expressed Sweden’s interest in expanding cooperation with Nigeria in culture, film, music, gaming, digital content development, and innovation.

She noted that “stronger collaboration in these sectors would create opportunities for youth empowerment, skills development, and economic growth in both countries.”

Both sides also reviewed ongoing trade and investment relations, emphasising the need to strengthen commercial ties between Nigerian and Swedish businesses.

They further underscored the role of cultural exchanges, tourism promotion, artistic collaborations, and people-to-people interactions in deepening friendship and understanding between the two nations
