The Nigerian Governors Forum says the Governors will meet President Muhammadu Buhari to discuss the need to present new revenue formula to the 9th National Assembly for passage into law before the end of his Administration.

The Chairman of the Nigerian Governor’s Forum, Aminu Tambuwal in an interview with Journalists after the valedictory session said the Governors would push to logical conclusion to achieve this.

He said that “the Governors have submitted the draft of the new Revenue formula allocation for the approval of the 36 State Governments.”

He also disclosed plans to ensure the timely release of multi-billion Naira warehoused by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

Speaking further on the outcome of the valedictory session, Governor Tambuwal said; “It’s nothing unusual, it’s the normal meeting of Governors where we discuss issues concerning the country, the Sub-national and of course democracy and Good governance.

But today, we’ve discussed the guidelines about the NFIU about financial regulations that it’s working on and how to ensure that Nigeria is taken out of the grey list of the Financial Task Force.

And we also discussed the primary healthcare and declaration, the progress made so far.”

He said; “During our induction course, some states that have attained some milestones are going to receive some awards for their performance.

“And we also discussed the new revenue formulary submitted to Mr President by Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission and the need to approach Mr President on the need to present the new draft formula to the National Assembly before this administration winds up.”

On the issue of Stamp Duties that are being owed to both the Nigerian Government and the States, Governor Tambuwal said that “It is warehoused in the Central Bank and we are working to make sure that that is being released for disbursement to both Federal Government and the States. So these are some of the issues we have discussed.”

The first physical meeting of the Governors this year had in attendance 20 Governors.

Meanwhile, 17 Governors will be leaving the Forum, having completed their terms of office, while plans are on the way for the onboarding of the new Governors at the upcoming Governors’ Forum induction for new and returning Governors between 14th and 17th May.

Another Chairman of the Governors forum is expected to be elected in due course, from among Governors of the majority party.
