The National Orientation Agency says Nigerians must participate actively in the 2027 general elections, stressing that citizens hold the power to determine the country’s political future through their votes.
The Director-General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), speaking exclusively to Voice of Nigeria in Abuja during the launch of the agency’s grassroots mobilisation programme ahead of the 2027 elections, called on Nigerians, particularly young people, to exercise their civic rights and participate in the electoral process.
He said the initiative was designed to educate citizens on the importance of voting and encourage them to take responsibility for shaping the nation’s future.
According to him, Nigerians must move beyond complaints and recognise that the power to choose their leaders rests with the electorate.
“We are no longer in the era where you need to sit down at home and think it’s already decided. Nothing is decided. It is in the hands of the people,” he said.

The NOA Director-General emphasised that voting is an inalienable civic right that citizens should exercise without fear or apathy.
He expressed optimism about improvements in the country’s electoral process, arguing that recent off-cycle elections had demonstrated growing credibility in the system.
He urged Nigerians to participate in large numbers and vote for candidates of their choice, rather than remain at home and complain about political developments.
Youth Participation
The Director-General described young Nigerians as a significant constituency whose participation could shape the country’s political direction.
He noted that the agency’s mobilisation campaign was non-partisan and aimed at encouraging all Nigerians, irrespective of political affiliation, to participate in the electoral process.
“If only they understand the power they have got, 75 per cent of our population is below the age of 35. And that is a constituency that should be deciding what happens in this country,” he said.
He added that the grassroots mobilisation programme would focus on helping citizens understand the importance of exercising their voting rights and fulfilling their civic responsibilities.
The initiative forms part of efforts to encourage greater public participation ahead of the 2027 general elections, with the NOA urging eligible voters to engage constructively in the democratic process.
The agency reiterated the importance of informed participation, encouraging Nigerians to come out, cast their ballots and make their choices through the electoral process.
