The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) and Cosmopolitan University are set to strengthen collaboration on climate-smart innovation, artificial intelligence (AI), and digital agriculture.
The collaboration was agreed upon when the Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of NiMet, Prof. Charles Anosike, received the Vice-Chancellor of Cosmopolitan University, Prof. Carl Adams, on a courtesy visit.
During the meeting, Prof. Anosike highlighted the shared commitment of both institutions to translating scientific research into practical solutions that benefit society.
He noted that NiMet has made significant progress in producing research-based information that supports national development and commended the university for embracing emerging technologies, particularly AI, to build climate-ready and climate-resilient communities.
“We share a common vision of translating science into action for the benefit of society. We also commend the university for embracing new technologies such as AI to promote climate-ready and climate-resilient communities,” Anosike said.
In his remarks, Prof. Adams reaffirmed the university’s commitment to developing the next generation of indigenous AI scientists and advancing climate-smart innovations powered by satellite data and artificial intelligence.
“Our goal is to nurture the next generation of indigenous AI scientists while driving climate-smart innovations through satellite data and AI applications,” Adams stated.
Both institutions agreed to formalise their partnership through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) which will focus on climate-smart and digital agriculture for smallholder farmers, aviation research, staff exchange programmes, data analytics, AI applications, and the use of meteorological information to improve livelihoods.
The Vice-Chancellor was accompanied on the visit by the university’s Pro-Chancellor and other members of its senior management team.
