NIS, NJI Sign MoU to Strengthen Sports Administration

The National Institute for Sports (NIS) and the National Judicial Institute (NJI) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening sports administration, promoting capacity building and enhancing institutional collaboration.

The agreement was signed at the conference room of the NJI in Abuja on Wednesday.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, the Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of NIS, Philip Shaibu, described the partnership as a strategic step towards deepening cooperation between the two institutions.

Shaibu said the collaboration reflected a shared commitment to national development through sports and institutional synergy.

He stressed that government funding alone could no longer sustain sports development in the country, calling for stronger inter-agency collaboration and alternative funding sources.

Drawing from his experience as a former Deputy Governor of Edo, Shaibu said strategic partnerships had become necessary to address the financial and administrative challenges facing the sports sector.

According to him, such collaborations will also help improve the capacity of institutions and ensure Nigeria’s teams remain competitive in regional and international competitions.

We must continue to build partnerships that will strengthen our institutions and support the sustainable development of sports in Nigeria.

“Government cannot do it alone. We need greater collaboration among public institutions and other stakeholders to move the sports sector forward,” he said.

Improving Sports Development and Institutional Capacity

In his remarks, the Administrator of NJI, Hon. Justice Adejumo, commended Shaibu for his leadership and efforts at repositioning the National Institute for Sports.

Adejumo described the reforms introduced under Shaibu’s administration as significant steps towards improving sports development and institutional capacity in the country.

He expressed optimism that the partnership would promote knowledge sharing and contribute to national development.
