Security stakeholders across North-West Nigeria have intensified calls for stronger collaboration among intelligence and law enforcement agencies to tackle growing security threats in the region.
This formed the focus of th 20th North-West Zonal Conference of Directors of the Department of State Services held in Kano state.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, the Kano State Director of Security, Husseni Abubakar, said the conference was convened to strengthen intelligence sharing, review emerging threats, and develop coordinated strategies to safeguard peace and national unity across the zone.

He identified banditry, arms trafficking, cyber bullying, illegal mining, sabotage of national assets, and hate campaigns as major security concerns requiring urgent and sustained action.
Abubakar stressed that the Department of State Services would continue to provide actionable intelligence and tactical support to sister security agencies in order to contain threats and protect Nigeria’s democracy.
He also commended the Director General of the DSS, Oluwatosin Adeola Ajayi, for his leadership and support in enhancing the service’s operational effectiveness.
Declaring the conference open, Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting security agencies through logistics, upgraded equipment, and improved operational support.
Governor Yusuf described Kano as one of the most peaceful and cosmopolitan states in the country.
He warned that the state was not immune to emerging threats including banditry, farmers-herders clashes, cybercrime, and activities of criminal gangs.
The governor cited the recent rescue of the Secretary of Kibiya Local Government Area, Alhaji Hamza Musa Durba, who was abducted from his residence, as evidence of effective collaboration among security agencies.
According to him, intelligence-led operations by the DSS and other agencies led to the successful rescue of the victim and arrest of the suspects in March this year.
Governor Yusuf also praised President Bola Tinubu for supporting national security efforts and described the appointment of the DSS Director General as a step in the right direction.
Others security heads at the event pledged synergy in addressing security challenges.
The conference brought together Directors of Security from states across the North-West zone to deliberate on strategies for addressing security challenges confronting the region.
