NYSC Denies Link to Proposed NANS Mobilisation Levy

Ene Audu

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) says it has no link to the proposed two-hundred-naira mobilisation levy reportedly being introduced by the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS).

In a statement by the NYSC Director, Press and Public Relations, Caroline Embu, the Scheme said it has neither discussed nor agreed to the collection of any levy from students in connection with mobilisation for national service.

The NYSC also rejects entering into any Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with NANS on the matter.

It explained that its mobilisation process is conducted through established official channels, involving the Management and Heads of Corps Producing Institutions (CPIs).

The Scheme said the institutions are responsible for providing the required information on their graduates for mobilisation purposes.

It stressed that the mobilisation process is neither linked to nor dependent on the activities of any student association or organisation.

The NYSC therefore advised students and Prospective Corps Members (PCMs) to disregard any information suggesting that payment of a levy to NANS or any other association is a requirement for NYSC mobilisation.

The Scheme reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining a transparent, credible and efficient mobilisation process in line with extant government policies and guidelines.
