NYSC urges Corps members to be security conscious

The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC in Nigeria,  Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim has urged corps members to be security conscious throughout the service year.

General Ibrahim gave this advice on Sunday while addressing the 2020 Batch ‘B’ stream 1B prospective Corps members at the Lagos and Ogun State Orientation Camps.

According to a statement by the Director, Press and Public Relations of the NYSC, Mrs. Adenike Adeyemi, the Director-General advised them against night parties, lone movements, night travels, boarding vehicles by the roadside but instead patronise designated motor parks.

According to the Director-General, corps members must seek approval from relevant authorities in the NYSC before travel, warning that any corps member that embarked on unauthorised journey would be sanction.

“Don’t violate NYSC Bye-Laws, I urge you to take your security very seriously, shun cultists, cybercrime,  drug addiction and ethnic bigotry “ he said.

He advised them to be disciplined, patriotic and serve as good ambassadors of their families and NYSC. He urged them to be conversant with the security agencies in their host communities.

Ibrahim urged them to acquire entrepreneurial skills, especially by availing themselves of opportunities provided through the NYSC skill acquisition and entrepreneurship development programme.

He urged them to respect the dignity of labour, saying, “do not allow anyone to distract you, identify your talents and pursue your dreams with passion and be disciplined in your conduct “.

He also urged them to emulate their predecessors in the fight against COVID -19 and advised them to observe the COVID -19 safety protocols wherever they found themselves.
