Osun State takes centre stage in Nigeria’s democratic process on Saturday as more than 2.3 million registered voters head to the polls to elect the state’s next governor.
The election will hold across 30 Local Government Areas, 332 Registration Areas and 3,763 Polling Units, with 15 political parties participating.
The Independent National Electoral Commission says it is ready for the poll, with personnel, sensitive materials and logistics deployed across the state.
Campaigning ended at midnight on Thursday, paving the way for voters to decide who will lead the state for the next four years.
The election is expected to test the credibility of Nigeria’s democratic process, with stakeholders calling for peaceful voting, transparent collation and results that reflect the will of the electorate.
Attention is now focused on voters, political parties, security agencies, election officials and observers as Osun goes to the polls.
