A governorship aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party in Bauchi State, Alhaji Usman Adamu, says he has absolute confidence in the Abdulrahman Mohammed-led PDP, describing it as the reason he identified with the party by obtaining nomination forms to contest the 2027 governorship election.
Adamu, who submitted his nomination and expression of interest forms at the PDP National Headquarters, Wadata Plaza, Abuja, said he had spent the last 20 years developing a blueprint aimed at transforming Bauchi State into a modern city comparable to Dubai if elected governor.
Speaking with journalists after submitting the forms, the aspirant expressed confidence in his chances despite recent political developments in the state.
Responding to questions on the influence of the incumbent governor, who recently defected to another party and is expected to support a preferred candidate, Adamu said political power ultimately belongs to God and that the people of Bauchi would determine their future.
According to him, the people of Bauchi are politically conscious and capable of choosing credible leadership without external influence.
He noted that past elections in the state had shown that incumbents could be defeated, adding that he was not worried about any candidate allegedly backed by the governor.
The PDP aspirant also dismissed speculations about divisions within the party, insisting that the PDP remained the dominant political force in Bauchi State.
Adamu maintained that the party’s leadership structure remained intact and recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
He further described reports of parallel party structures and separate sale of nomination forms by splinter groups as inconsequential, stressing that the PDP would emerge stronger and more united after its primaries.
