PDP Governorship Aspirant Sharif Abdullahi Promises Reforms in Yobe

Chika Eze, Abuja

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Yobe State Sharif Abdullahi  says he is contesting the 2027 governorship election to improve education, healthcare, agriculture, and security in the state.

Abdullahi, who also contested for the same position in 2023, described Yobe as one of the most underdeveloped states in Nigeria despite being created in 1991.

According to him, neighbouring states such as Jigawa and Gombe have recorded more development over the years.

“When elected, I will focus on improving the education sector, healthcare delivery, and agriculture to better the lives of our people,” he said.

Speaking on the PDP screening exercise, Abdullahi described the process as credible and professionally conducted by experienced party leaders, including former ministers, governors, and senators.

“The screening was conducted by experienced people who understand governance and the workings of the party,” he stated.

On the issue of insecurity, the PDP aspirant acknowledged that security remains a major challenge across the country, noting that the responsibility primarily lies with the Federal Government.

However, he assured that his administration would strengthen efforts to improve security in Yobe State if elected.

“Security is a sensitive sector, so we cannot disclose all our strategies publicly. But we have plans and experience, and we will improve on what has already been done,” he added.

Addressing the challenge of contesting in an APC-controlled state, Abdullahi expressed optimism that the PDP would make greater gains in 2027.

He noted that the party secured two House of Representatives seats and other positions in previous elections, adding that increased political awareness among the people would work in the PDP’s favour in the next election.
