Ahead of the October 8, 2021 local government elections in Plateau state, the People’s Democratic Party, PDP is putting its house in order to not only contest but give the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, a good run for its money,  by winning as many seats as it can.

Two former governors of the state Senator Jonah Jang and Mr Fidelis Tapgun after a stakeholders’ meeting assured party members of their resolve to unite all factions of the party for progress and success in the upcoming election and beyond.

Senator Jonah Jang assured the three-man caretaker committee, led by Senator Tunde Obgeha, set up to manage affairs of the PDP in Plateau state of their commitment to ensure that the committee achieve its goals.

Jang who is the immediate past governor of Plateau State gave the assurance in an interview with journalists, shortly after the stakeholders meeting held at party secretariat in Jos, the state capital and promised that the PDP would return to power in the next elections.

On the forthcoming local government elections in the state, slated for October this year,  he noted that “though the Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission (PLASIEC), said the PDP will not participate in the election due to factions I want to say that the PDP will actively participate, because we are now united,” Jang said.

Mr. Fidelis Tapgun, second civilian governor of the state who also served as campaign director general to former President Olusegun Obasanjo, said they have put the past behind them and are ready to forge ahead for better political outcome .

“We have stayed apart for too long, we have come together to develop our political party the PDP,” he noted.

The reconciliation meeting, attended by many party stalwarts, became necessary after the Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission said the PDP would not take part in the local government election due to infighting and existence of two factions claiming leadership of the party at the state level.

The National Working Committee of the PDP had on June 10, 2021, set up the committee led by Senator Tunde Ogbeha to resolve the state executive leadership crisis of the party in Plateau state within three months.

The outcome of the reconciliation meeting of the PDP is now public, what is left is the next move by the Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission on whether or not it will change its decision and allow the PDP participate in the October 8, 2021 local government polls.
