The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, says the Nigeria Police Force is determined to intensify efforts to tackle insecurity and protect lives and property across the country.
The IGP stated this during a two-day working visit to Niger State, North-Central Nigeria, where he reviewed security operations and met with officers and stakeholders on ways to strengthen the fight against criminality in the state.
The visit was also aimed at supporting ongoing efforts to secure the safe release of worshippers abducted in Dekara, Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State.
Condemning the abduction, Mr. Disu said the Police and the nation remained deeply concerned about the safe and speedy release of the victims.

He said that tactical and counter-terrorism teams, the Special Intervention Squad and Explosive Ordnance Disposal personnel had been deployed as part of efforts to rescue the victims and restore security in the affected communities.
The IGP said attacks on innocent citizens have serious consequences for security and economic development, not only in Niger State but across the country.
He charged officers and men of the Command to remain vigilant, proactive and professional in the discharge of their duties, while strengthening community engagement and intelligence gathering.
State Police
On the proposed establishment of state police, the IGP said it would not disrupt ongoing police operations but would strengthen the capacity and efficiency of officers in maintaining security.
He stressed that the Nigeria Police Force remains the primary policing institution responsible for maintaining internal security in the country.
The IGP also commended police officers for their sacrifices, courage and commitment to duty, saying their resilience remains essential to securing Niger State and Nigeria.
The Niger State Commissioner of Police, Abdullahi Elleman, appreciated the IGP for the support and assurances given to the Command.
Mr. Elleman reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property and ensuring peace and security across the state.
Earlier, the IGP visited the Niger State Government House, where he was briefed on the security situation in the state by the Deputy Governor, Yakubu Garba.
Top government functionaries, including the Commissioner for Homeland Security, Mr Maurice Bello Magaji; Chairman of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), North-Central, Tanko Dada; Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) from various stations across the state; and other senior government officials attended the meeting at the Niger State Police Command.
