The Sokoto State Police Command has announced plans to commence enforcement against vehicles operating without registration number plates and those displaying concealed, altered, defaced, or obscured number plates across the state.
The move, according to the Command, is in compliance with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, and is aimed at strengthening public safety, enhancing intelligence-led policing, and preventing the use of unidentifiable vehicles in criminal activities.
In a statement by the command Public Relations Officer, DSP Ahmad Rufa’i said the exercise forms part of ongoing efforts to improve security and ensure strict adherence to existing laws governing vehicle registration.
The Commissioner of Police in Sokoto State, CP Hayatu Hassan Shaffa, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property, stressing that the enforcement drive is designed to enhance public security rather than create hardship for law-abiding citizens.

“The exercise is intended to strengthen security measures and ensure compliance with extant laws and regulations across the state,” Shaffa stated.
He assured residents that the operation would be conducted professionally, transparently, and in strict accordance with the law while calling on the public to cooperate with police personnel and relevant agencies to guarantee its success.
The Commissioner reiterated the command commitment to maintaining law and order across the state.
He urged all road users to comply with the directive and other traffic regulations in the interest of public safety and national security.
