The Nigerian Ports Authority, NPA, has facilitated the clearance and release of critical power equipment belonging to the Niger Delta Power Holding Company Limited, left stranded at various seaports across the country.
The intervention is expected to fast-track execution of key power infrastructure projects nationwide and prevent potential financial losses estimated in billions of naira.
The Company’s Managing Director, Mrs Jennifer Adighije disclosed this when she led members of the company’s management team on a courtesy visit to the Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority, Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho, and his management team in Lagos.
Mrs Adighije commended the NPA for its prompt action, stating that “the release of the equipment is vital to strengthening Nigeria’s power infrastructure and ensuring timely delivery of ongoing and planned projects under the NDPHC portfolio.’
She said: “The equipment is essential for the execution of critical power projects. Prolonged delays in clearing the consignments would have impacted project timelines, increased costs and affected efforts to improve electricity supply across Nigeria.”
“The timely intervention by the Nigerian Ports Authority has not only ensured the release of this strategic equipment, but has also saved the Niger Delta Power Holding Company billions of naira in potential demurrage and losses,” Mrs Adighije stated.
Inter-Agency Collaboration
The NDPHC Managing Director called for sustained collaboration between the Power Holding Company, NPA and other relevant agencies in the energy and maritime sectors to eliminate bureaucratic bottlenecks that could affect service delivery and the execution of critical infrastructure projects.
According to her, “the timely clearance of the power-sector equipment is necessary to enable contractors and project teams to access materials required for project execution within schedule.”
Mrs Adighije said that the visit aimed at deepening the strategic partnership between NDPHC and NPA, and exploring further areas of cooperation.
She expressed appreciation to Dantsoho and the NPA management for their support and commitment to resolving issues affecting the movement of NDPHC equipment through Nigerian ports.
“NDPHC remains committed to strengthening this relationship in the overall interest of Nigeria’s power sector and national development,” she emphasised.
Promoting National Development
The Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority, Abubakar Dantsoho commended the NDPHC management for the visit and reaffirmed the Authority’s commitment to supporting government initiatives that promote national development.
Dantsoho acknowledged NDPHC’s contribution to the growth of Nigeria’s power sector, saying “reliable electricity supply is fundamental to economic growth, industrialisation, and improved living standards.”
“The Nigerian Port Authority will continue to support the seamless movement and clearance of critical equipment, especially those required for projects that strengthen national infrastructure and advance the Renewed Hope Agenda of the Nigerian Government,” Dantsoho added.
