Post-Conflict Recovery: Borno Governor Holds High-Level Talks with Diplomats

Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has held a high-level meeting with senior diplomats and international development partners in Abuja to deepen collaboration on the state’s post-conflict recovery, peace-building and sustainable development efforts.

The closed-door meeting, which took place at the British High Commission, brought together representatives of the United Nations, the United Kingdom, the European Union, the United States and Switzerland, underscoring the international community’s continued commitment to supporting Borno State’s rebuilding process.

Among those present were the United Nations Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Nigeria, Mohamed Malick Fall; the British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Richard Montgomery; the European Union Ambassador to Nigeria and ECOWAS, Gautier Mignot; the Swiss Ambassador to Nigeria, Patrick Egloff; and the Chargé d’Affaires of the United States Embassy in Nigeria, Keith Heffern.

The meeting focused on strengthening strategic partnerships aimed at accelerating recovery initiatives in Borno State, particularly in communities affected by years of insurgency and displacement.

Also in attendance were two senior officials of the British High Commission, Abigail Wood, First Secretary (Humanitarian), and Steven Robinson, First Secretary (Lake Chad Basin), who are actively involved in humanitarian and regional development engagements.

Governor Zulum’s administration has continued to work closely with the United Nations and other international partners in implementing programmes designed to improve access to quality education and healthcare, restore livelihoods, resettle displaced persons, and consolidate peace across the state.

The governor was accompanied to the meeting by the Acting Chief of Staff, Dr. Babagana Mustapha Malumbe, and the Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Professor Baba Malam Gana.

The engagement is expected to further strengthen international support for Borno State’s long-term development agenda and ongoing efforts to build resilient and prosperous communities.
