President Tinubu Assents to Bill Upgrading Kaduna Polytechnic to University

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has assented to a bill upgrading the Federal Polytechnic, Kaduna, to the Federal University of Technology and Vocational Studies, Kaduna.

The development has drawn commendation from the Member representing Jema’a/Sanga Federal Constituency and Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on House Services, Daniel Amos, who praised the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, for sponsoring and facilitating the passage of the legislation.

In a statement on Friday, Amos described the development as a significant step towards strengthening technical and vocational education, expanding access to higher education and promoting skills acquisition in Kaduna State and Nigeria.

He said the Speaker’s sponsorship of the bill demonstrated a commitment to advancing educational opportunities and supporting national development.

“Speaker Tajudeen’s leadership on this bill demonstrates purposeful commitment to education and national development,” Amos said.

The law repeals the legislation establishing the Federal Polytechnic, Kaduna, and provides for its transformation into a university specialising in technology and vocational studies.

The upgrade is expected to create opportunities for expanded degree programmes, strengthen research and innovation, and improve access to specialised technical education.

Amos also commended President Tinubu for granting presidential assent to the Kaduna university bill and the legislation establishing the Federal University of Technology and Vocational Studies, Yaba, Lagos.

He said the President’s approval reflected the importance of educational reform and human capital development to Nigeria’s long-term growth.

The lawmaker congratulated the people of Kaduna State, as well as the management, staff and students of the former Federal Polytechnic, Kaduna, on the development.

He expressed confidence that the House of Representatives would continue to support measures aimed at ensuring the effective take-off of the new university.

The institution’s transition is expected to strengthen the development of technical skills and expand opportunities for students seeking technology-focused and vocational education.
