President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commended renowned banker and philanthropist Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede for his commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s public service as he marks his 60th birthday.
The President also praised his philanthropic support for improved healthcare, particularly through the interventions of the Aig-Imoukhuede Foundation.
In a personal tribute to Aig-Imoukhuede on Thursday, President Tinubu acknowledged the work he and his wife, Ofovwe, have undertaken through the Foundation to improve public-sector effectiveness and prepare public servants for greater responsibilities.
The President further highlighted the Foundation’s support for healthcare delivery, with its interventions also focused on strengthening government leadership and expanding access to quality primary healthcare.
“I particularly commend the work Aigboje and his wife, Ofovwe, have done through the Aig-Imoukhuede Foundation. They have invested in improving public service, preparing public servants for greater responsibility and supporting better healthcare.
“I am pleased that after considerable success in private enterprise, Aigboje continues to devote his experience and resources to the progress of our country,” President Tinubu said.
The President congratulated Aig-Imoukhuede on attaining the milestone age of 60, reflecting on his journey in business and public life over the years and describing him as a member of a generation of Nigerians who took bold bets on the country and demonstrated that Nigerian institutions could compete at the highest levels.

President Tinubu identified Aig-Imoukhuede’s years at Access Bank as an important part of that journey, noting that he became Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer in 2002 and led the bank through a period of significant growth. He currently chairs Access Holdings Plc and Coronation Group.
The President also recognised Aig-Imoukhuede’s contributions to the development of Nigeria’s financial markets, recalling his service as President of the Nigerian Stock Exchange and founding Chairman of FMDQ Securities Exchange, alongside his continuing involvement with EnterpriseNGR.
Beyond the private sector, President Tinubu praised his willingness to accept public responsibilities, recalling that in 2012, Aig-Imoukhuede chaired the Presidential Committee on the Verification and Reconciliation of Fuel Subsidy Payments, an assignment the President described as difficult and undertaken at an important period in the country’s history. Contemporary records confirm that Aig-Imoukhuede headed the committee.
Reflecting on the significance of the birthday, President Tinubu described 60 as an important milestone and an opportunity for Aig-Imoukhuede to reflect on a career that had impacted several institutions and created opportunities for many people.
“Sixty is an important milestone. For Aigboje, it is also an opportunity to reflect on a career that has touched many institutions and opened doors for many people,” the president stated.
President Tinubu joined Aig-Imoukhuede’s wife, Ofovwe, their children, family, friends and associates in celebrating him on the occasion.
He wished Aig-Imoukhuede good health, happiness and many more years of service to Nigeria and humanity, concluding his tribute with, “Happy 60th birthday, Aigboje.”
