President Tinubu Urges Communities to Protect New FCT Road

President Bola Tinubu has urged residents of the Gomani, Dafa and Yangoji communities in Kwali Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to take ownership of the newly commissioned Gomani–Dafa–Yangoji Road, describing the infrastructure as a shared asset that must be protected for future generations.

Represented by the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, at the commissioning ceremony on Tuesday, President Tinubu said the responsibility for preserving the road now rested with the benefiting communities, following the government’s successful delivery of the project.

Addressing traditional rulers, community leaders, farmers, traders and youths, the President said, “This road is now yours. Guard it jealously.

“Do not allow encroachment on the rights of way. Keep the drains free of refuse and report any attempt to vandalise any section of this road. Use it to grow your farms, expand your businesses and secure a better future for your children. Government has done its part. The next responsibility belongs to you.”

Tinubu also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to completing and maintaining public infrastructure, stressing that the era of abandoned government projects had come to an end.

“The era of starting projects only to abandon them is over. We will fund, complete and maintain the infrastructure we build. Every single naira of public funds must translate into value for the citizens,” he said.

He noted that the newly completed road would improve access to markets, schools, healthcare facilities and other essential services, while reducing post-harvest losses, stimulating agricultural activities and expanding economic opportunities across the benefiting rural communities.

Earlier, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Barr. Nyesom Wike said the project reflected President Tinubu’s directive that development should extend beyond the Abuja city centre to satellite communities.

According to the minister, the contract was awarded in November 2025 and completed in less than one year, demonstrating the administration’s commitment to timely project delivery and effective contract execution.

“This road was awarded in November last year. Today is June 30, 2026, and it has been completed in less than 12 months. That tells you this is not rocket science. It is simply a matter of commitment by the administration and commitment by the contractor,” Wike said.

He commended the contractor for delivering the project within schedule and announced that the same firm would also complete the Gbazango (Arab Road) project in Kubwa, which is scheduled for commissioning next month.

Wike recalled that President Tinubu had directed FCT officials to consult host communities before selecting projects, ensuring that infrastructure development reflected the actual needs of residents rather than decisions taken solely within government offices.

He explained that traditional rulers in Kwali Area Council had consistently requested the construction of the A2–Pai, Pai–Gomani and Gomani–Dafa–Yangoji road corridor, adding that the administration had fulfilled all the promises made to the communities.

The minister also applauded the traditional rulers for supporting the contractor throughout the construction period, noting that their cooperation contributed significantly to the timely completion of the project.

He thereafter invited the President’s representative to formally inaugurate the road, marking another milestone in the ongoing 31-day commissioning of projects executed by the FCT Administration under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
