The Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Council, has unveiled plans to address common health challenges affecting journalists in the territory.
The Vice Chairman of the council, Mr Yahaya Ndambabo, disclosed this at the closing ceremony of the 2026 NUJ-FCT Press Week in Abuja on Friday.
The theme of the week-long event was “2027 Election: Defending Democracy in the Era of Disinformation”.

Ndambabo recalled that the press week commenced with a medical outreach, a 10-kilometre health walk, a quiz competition for selected schools aimed at reviving press clubs, and a series of lectures for members.
He said reports from the medical outreach were currently being reviewed to identify the common ailments affecting journalists and determine ways of addressing them.
“We started with a medical outreach in partnership with Nizamiye Hospital, where over 200 journalists were tested and given various medications.
“We are receiving reports from the hospital and reviewing them to identify the common ailments affecting our members and how best to address them,” he said.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the Organising Committee, Mr Obas Esiedesa, commended members of the council for their cooperation and active participation in all the activities lined up for the press week.
Esiedesa urged members to continue supporting the council and uphold the principles of journalism.
