Renaissance Africa Energy Company Limited has partnered with the Public Service Institute of Nigeria (PSIN) to strengthen the capacity of public servants and improve service delivery in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.

The partnership was highlighted during a two-day seminar held in Abuja, aimed at helping senior government officials and other public servants understand how their responsibilities and policy decisions affect oil and gas production, economic growth and the country’s broader development objectives.

General Manager, Business Relations, Renaissance Africa Energy Company Limited, Enobonge Ekanem, said the seminar was designed to ensure that public servants understood their role in helping Nigeria meet its production targets.

He said “Oil and gas powers Nigeria,” stressing the importance of ensuring that government officials understand how their activities affect the industry and the national economy.

According to him, Nigeria’s budgets are closely linked to production targets, making effective coordination between the public service and the oil and gas industry essential to achieving national development goals.

He said the company expects the collaboration with PSIN to contribute to the achievement of Nigeria’s 2027 targets by improving the understanding and performance of public servants involved in the sector.

The Renaissance Boss also outlined ambitious plans for Nigeria’s domestic and export gas markets, adding that the company is “targeting a project that could add about 300 million standard cubic feet of gas to the Nigerian domestic market, with longer-term aspirations of reaching one billion standard cubic feet in domestic gas supply and two billion standard cubic feet in export gas by 2030.”

Ekanem said expanding domestic gas supply could support industrialisation, create employment and improve household incomes.

He added that greater access to cleaner and safer gas for cooking could also contribute to improved living conditions, while increased economic activity could help reduce insecurity and strengthen the Nigerian economy.

On her part, the PSIN CEO, Ime Okon, said the collaboration was part of efforts to improve the capacity and effectiveness of public servants in line with the Federal Government’s focus on enhanced service delivery.

She said the public service institute was established to equip government officials with the knowledge and skills required to perform their duties effectively.

Mrs. Okon described the collaboration with the private sector as an important way of improving efficiency, noting that businesses typically operate around clearly defined targets and performance objectives.

She also acknowledged concerns in the past about lethargy and poor commitment among some public servants, but said the situation was changing.

“It’s no longer business as usual,” she said, emphasising the need for public servants to become more effective and accountable in carrying out their responsibilities.
