Reforms Target Investments, Economic Growth – Information Minister

Mnena Iyorkegh, Abuja

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, says the Nigerian Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda focuses on creating a stable environment for investment, enterprise and sustainable economic growth.

Idris stated this in Abuja at the New Nigeria Festival through the Director-General of Voice of Nigeria, Jibrin Baba Ndace.

The Minister explained that the administration’s economic reforms were aimed not only at attracting investment but also at creating opportunities for Nigerians to actively participate in the economy.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda is built around that same challenge. The administration has undertaken major reforms to create a more stable environment for investment, enterprise and long-term growth, while expanding opportunities for Nigerians to participate in the economy,” Idris explained.

He noted that ideas and innovation alone could not create prosperity without the necessary support systems, stressing the importance of access to capital, skills, infrastructure and markets.

The Minister said the government was committed to creating an enabling environment where businesses could thrive and transform Nigeria’s abundant human capital into jobs, exports and economic opportunities.

Idris observed that Nigeria’s youthful population was already making significant contributions to technology, creative industries, digital services, manufacturing and entrepreneurship.

He, however, noted that the challenge was to ensure that the country’s young and talented population could translate their ideas and skills into sustainable businesses and employment.

“The challenge before us is therefore straightforward: we must move from ideas to execution, from talent to opportunity, and from opportunity to measurable results,” the Minister stressed.

He further highlighted the Nigerian Government’s Hire From Nigeria campaign, launched in August, as part of efforts to connect Nigerian professionals, skilled workers, digital experts, creatives and service providers with international employers and markets.

According to the Minister, the initiative represented a broader approach to redefining Nigeria’s export potential by placing greater emphasis on knowledge, skills and professional services.

“This is an important shift in how we think about exports. Nigeria has traditionally spoken about exporting commodities. We must also export knowledge, skills, creativity and professional services,” Idris maintained.

Idris also cited the Digital Training Academy, launched in September, as another government initiative designed to equip Nigerians with relevant digital skills and professional certifications required to compete in the global economy.

He urged participants at the New Nigeria Festival to leverage the opportunities created by government reforms and build partnerships capable of converting ideas and innovations into viable businesses.

The Minister said such partnerships should ultimately lead to the creation of jobs, expansion of exports and development of practical solutions to some of the challenges confronting the country.

He reiterated the Nigerian Government’s commitment to providing the conditions necessary for Nigerians to turn their talents and entrepreneurial ideas into measurable economic outcomes.
