The Nigerian Army has identified stronger collaboration with the Rivers State Government as a critical pillar of national security, underscoring the growing importance of military-civil cooperation in protecting strategic assets, sustaining economic stability and addressing evolving security challenges.
The message was conveyed during a courtesy visit by the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, to the Governor of Rivers State, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, at the Government House, Port Harcourt, on Friday, as part of activities marking the 163rd Nigerian Army Day Celebration (NADCEL 2026).
According to a statement issued by the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele, the Army leadership expressed appreciation for the support and hospitality extended by the Rivers State Government towards hosting the week-long celebration. It noted that the enabling environment provided by the state contributed significantly to the successful conduct of the anniversary activities.

Beyond the celebration, the engagement underscored the Army’s position that sustained cooperation among the military, government and citizens remains essential to tackling contemporary security challenges and safeguarding Nigeria’s critical national infrastructure.
The Chief of Army Staff stressed that partnerships founded on mutual trust and institutional cooperation are indispensable to strengthening internal security and advancing national development.
In his response, Governor Siminalayi Fubara commended the Nigerian Army for its contribution to security in Rivers State, noting that the improved security environment has supported increased crude oil production and stimulated wider economic activity across the state.
The governor also acknowledged the Army’s sustained operations against insurgency, pipeline vandalism and crude oil theft, reaffirming the state’s commitment to supporting military efforts to protect critical national infrastructure and promote national stability.

The engagement formed part of activities leading to the grand finale of NADCEL 2026, reinforcing the Nigerian Army’s emphasis on strategic partnerships as a key component of its approach to national security.
