Senate Majority Leader Praises Voter Turnout in Ekiti

Sekinat Salam, Ado-Ekiti

Nigeria’s Senate Majority Leader, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, has commended voters in Ekiti State for their impressive turnout in the ongoing 2026 governorship election, describing the participation as a demonstration of public confidence in the country’s democratic process.

Speaking after casting his vote at Eyelori Compound, Ward 11, Unit 3, in Iyin-Ekiti, Senator Bamidele said the election was significant as it represents the first major electoral contest to be conducted under Nigeria’s recently amended electoral reform law.

According to him, the reforms have introduced measures aimed at strengthening transparency, credibility and efficiency in the conduct of elections across the country.

The Senate Majority Leader noted that the Ekiti governorship election would serve as a critical test of the effectiveness of the new legal framework and provide an important benchmark for future elections in Nigeria.

He expressed confidence in the electoral process and said the successful conduct of the poll would further consolidate democratic governance and set a positive example for subsequent elections nationwide.
