The Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Jibrin Barau, has inaugurated the Kano North Senatorial District Campaign Council for the 2027 general elections, urging members to mobilise support for candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Barau, who inaugurated the council in Kano on Tuesday, called on party members and stakeholders to work together to support APC candidates at the presidential, governorship, National Assembly and State House of Assembly levels.
He called for the re-election of President Bola Tinubu, his own return as Senator representing Kano North, Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, and other APC candidates contesting legislative seats.
The Deputy Senate President, in a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ismail Mudashir, urged the campaign council to mobilise voters across the 13 local government areas of the Kano North Senatorial District.
He described the council as an all-inclusive body, saying party stakeholders at the ward, local government and senatorial district levels all had roles to play in the party’s campaign.
“This is an all-inclusive arrangement. Everybody is involved, and all stakeholders are part and parcel of this council. This has always been our system, and it is one of the reasons we have continued to succeed in Kano North. This election will not be an exception, by God’s grace,” Barau said.
He urged the council to mobilise party members and stakeholders towards securing victories for APC candidates, under the slogan, “APC SAK”.
Barau also appealed to party members to move beyond the outcome of the APC primary elections, saying the contests had ended and that members remained part of the same political organisation.
He urged candidates who emerged from the primaries to work with aspirants who contested but did not secure the party’s tickets.
According to him, competition for party tickets was normal in a democracy, but party members should work towards the success of the organisation after the primaries.
“You can see that many of those who contested the primaries but did not secure the tickets are here today. They understand that the party belongs to all of us, and that the victory of the party is ultimately their own victory,” he said.
The campaign council is chaired by the Managing Director of the Hadeja Jama’are River Basin Development Authority and former Secretary to the Kano State Government, Engineer Rabiu Sulaiman Bichi.
Responding, Bichi pledged that the council would campaign for APC candidates from the presidential level to the State House of Assembly.
He described Senator Barau as a strong candidate, citing his interventions and contributions across Kano State.
Bichi said the council comprised experienced politicians and grassroots mobilisers, adding that its members would work to mobilise voters for APC candidates in Kano North.
He assured the Deputy Senate President that the council would intensify its mobilisation efforts ahead of the 2027 elections.
The inauguration was attended by APC leaders, members of the campaign council and supporters from across the Kano North Senatorial District.
