Tax Ombud Launches Website, Toll-Free Support Centre

The Office of the Tax Ombud has launched its official website and toll-free call centre in Abuja to improve communication between taxpayers and tax authorities in Nigeria.

Speaking at the event, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, stated that there is a need for increased public awareness so that Nigerians can better understand the ongoing tax reforms and government’s plans for the country.

He explained that the reforms are aimed at putting Nigeria on the path of steady growth and development. There are more reforms to reposition this country on the path of sustainable progress and development.

Additionally, the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Taiwo Oyedele, described the launch of the website and call centre as a crucial step in Nigeria’s tax reform process.

According to him, a good tax system should not only focus on collecting revenue but should also promote fairness, transparency, accountability, and trust between the government and citizens.

He added that “the initiative will help protect taxpayers’ rights, encourage voluntary tax payment, and improve the country’s tax system.”

The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Didi Esther Walson-Jack, through her representative, delivered a goodwill message, saying that the launch came at the right time. She noted that the digital platforms would make it easier for citizens to access information, report complaints, and get better services.

“The website, toll-free call centre, and case management system will improve public access, complaint resolution, and service delivery to taxpayers,” She said.

The event ended with the official unveiling of the Tax Ombud website and the launch of the toll-free call centre, which are expected to improve trust and communication in Nigeria’s tax system.
