Technical Fault Delays Fourth Evacuation Flight from South Africa

By Margaret Ebeshi

The Nigerian Government has announced that the fourth evacuation flight scheduled to return 270 Nigerians from Johannesburg, South Africa, has been delayed following the discovery of a technical fault on the aircraft.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson, Kimiebi Ebienfa said the Air Peace aircraft could not depart because cracks were detected on the cockpit windscreen during pre-flight checks.

In a message to journalists, he explained that Air Peace will deploy another aircraft to Johannesburg later on Wednesday to complete the evacuation of the stranded Nigerians.

The Ministry apologised for the delay and the inconvenience caused, assuring that arrangements had been made to ensure the returnees are brought home safely as soon as possible.

The delayed flight was initially scheduled to depart Johannesburg at midnight on the 7th of July, 2026 and arrive at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, at about 5:00 a.m. on Wednesday with 270 Nigerian returnees.
