Troops of Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have foiled separate terrorist abduction attempts in Zamfara State.
The Troops also rescued civilians and neutralised an Improvised Explosive Device planted along a major route in Bukkuyum Local Government Area.
The Joint Task Force North West, through its Media Information Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, said the operations on 17 August 2026 demonstrated sustained pressure on terrorist elements attempting to disrupt civilian movement and exploit major routes across the state.
Along the Gurusu- Anka Road, troops of Sector 2 responded to an abduction incident and pursued the terrorists, forcing them to abandon their captives and flee.

Seven victims, comprising four women and three children, were rescued unharmed.
In a separate operation around Magazu Village in Tsafe Local Government Area, troops responded to reports of terrorists attempting to abduct motorists and engaged the attackers, compelling them to abandon their victims and escape into surrounding bushes.
Danja said some of the rescued victims sustained gunshot wounds during the incident and were promptly evacuated to a medical facility for treatment.
Earlier the same day, troops of Sector 2 also responded to the discovery of a terrorist-planted IED along the Gurusu–Gwashi Road in Bukkuyum Local Government Area.
The area was immediately secured while the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team neutralised the device, averting potential casualties among troops and civilian road users.

Civilians and Maintaining
The series of interventions reinforces Operation FANSAN YAMMA’s focus on denying terrorist elements access to vulnerable civilians and maintaining the security of critical road corridors used by communities and other road users across Zamfara.
The Theatre Command, through Danja, reassured the public that troops would continue to maintain pressure on terrorist elements across the Joint Operations Area and deny them the freedom to threaten innocent citizens.
Members of the public were also urged to remain vigilant and provide timely and credible information on suspicious activities to security forces.
