Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have rescued 31 civilians and foiled an attempted mass abduction by Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists in Borno State, reinforcing ongoing efforts to secure major transport corridors across the North-East.
According to the Acting Military Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI, Captain Mohammed Goni, the operation followed real-time intelligence that detected terrorists intercepting four civilian vehicles along the Buratai–Kamuya Road in Biu Local Government Area on July 31.
He said troops of the 135 Special Forces Battalion immediately deployed a Quick Response Force, pursued the fleeing insurgents towards the Mangari–Dora area, and engaged them in a firefight.
Captain Goni explained that the sustained military pressure forced the terrorists to abandon all 31 abducted civilians, four civilian vehicles and several motorcycles before fleeing into nearby bushland.
He stressed that troops subsequently dominated the area and conducted follow-up exploitation operations to prevent the insurgents from regrouping.
The rescued civilians and recovered vehicles were safely escorted to Buratai, where the victims continued their journeys.
The military said the successful operation underscores the effectiveness of intelligence-led surveillance and rapid-response operations in disrupting terrorist activities and enhancing security along critical transport routes across Nigeria’s North-East.
