Operation FANSAN YAMMA has foiled coordinated kidnap attempts in Zamfara State, rescuing the Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, Kaura Namoda, Dr Aminu Yusuf, and 21 other civilians during separate military operations.
The operations, carried out by troops of Sector 2, formed part of the military’s ongoing offensive against terrorist groups operating across Nigeria’s North-West.
The Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja said “troops responded to separate distress calls on 28 July after terrorists launched coordinated attacks on communities in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area.”
During one of the attacks, the terrorists stormed the residence of Dr Aminu Yusuf, killing his private security guard, injuring another resident, and attempting to abduct the Rector and members of his family.
Troops arrived swiftly, engaged the attackers with superior firepower, and forced them to abandon the operation, rescuing Dr Yusuf and his family without injury. The rapid response prevented what could have become another high-profile kidnapping in Zamfara’s volatile security environment.
In a second operation on the same day, troops responded to another distress call from Tungan Dorawa in Barkeji Village, where terrorists attempted to abduct residents. Despite the difficult terrain slowing their initial advance, soldiers closed in on the fleeing gunmen and disrupted the operation before the victims could be taken away.
