The Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) has delivered nearly 4,000 classrooms across Kano State as part of efforts to improve access to quality basic education, strengthen learning environments and advance President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The Executive Secretary of UBEC, Dr Aisha Garba disclosed this during a series of education engagements in Kano State alongside the Minister of Education, Dr Maruf Tunji Alausa, the Minister of State for Education, Professor Suwaiba Sa’id Ahmad, and Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
The delegation inspected UBEC- for supported projects and witnessed the presentation of appointment letters to newly recruited teachers by the Kano State Government.
In a statement by the Special Adviser on Media and Communications to the Minister of Education, Ikharo Attah, the UBEC boss said that “the Commission’s intervention has significantly expanded access to education through the construction of modern classrooms.”
Garba noted that the facilities are providing safer and more conducive learning environments for pupils, while encouraging school enrollment, retention, and improved learning outcomes.
She said; “However, infrastructure alone cannot transform education without qualified teachers, the recruitment of more than 16,000 teachers by the Kano State Government as one of the most significant investments in basic education in Nigeria.
“The newly recruited teachers will help bridge the teacher shortage, particularly in underserved communities, and improve the quality of teaching across the state,” she said
Garba expressed that Nigeria continues to face a shortage of teachers, especially in rural areas, making sustained investment in the teaching workforce essential to achieving better learning outcomes.
She said President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda places priority on ensuring that no Nigerian child is denied access to quality education.
“The directive of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is clear. No child should be left behind. Every Nigerian child deserves access to quality education. Even where classrooms exist, without teachers, children cannot learn. That is why investments in teachers are investments in the future of our nation,” she said.
The UBEC boss described each appointment letter presented to the newly recruited teachers as a symbol of renewed hope for classrooms, communities and thousands of children whose future depends on quality teaching.
She also observed that the recruitment comes at a time when UNESCO estimates that more than 44 million teachers are needed globally to address the growing teacher shortage, adding that Kano State’s commitment places it among governments implementing practical solutions to the challenge.
