Voice of Nigeria commended China’s Xinhua News Agency for its continued partnership after signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on content exchange, joint production, capacity building, and technical support.
VON Director-General Malam Jibrin Ndace gave the commendation when the Deputy President of Xinhua News Agency in Africa, Mr. Gui Tao, paid him a courtesy call in Abuja on Wednesday.
Representing VON’s Director-General is the Director of General Services, Malam Danladi Abdulkarim. Ndace said the partnership had moved from paperwork to action, building mutual understanding between the two media organisations.
“Voice of Nigeria is broadcasting in nine languages. The MoU is a bridge between Africa and China,” he said.

He said VON had made modest progress since the MoU was signed, particularly in its Mandarin service, which was officially launched in November.

Ndace identified content exchange, joint production, capacity building and technical support as areas where both organisations could do more for mutual benefit.
He said VON remained fully committed to the MoU, adding that the document would only be meaningful when it becomes “a living, working partnership that benefits both organisations and deepens the friendship between Nigeria and China.”
In response, Mr. Tao said the Xinhua delegation was in Nigeria to deepen cooperation with VON based on mutual understanding and the signed MoU.
He said the visit was also an opportunity to see how Nigeria works, describing Nigeria as one of Africa’s most important countries economically, geographically and demographically.
