The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr Nyesom Wike, has expressed satisfaction with the progress of major road projects across Abuja, assuring residents that key infrastructure under construction will be completed as scheduled.
Speaking on Tuesday after inspecting the ongoing ISEX Road Corridor and the nearly completed Apo–Karshi Road, Wike said the projects were critical to improving connectivity, opening up new districts and accelerating development within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
He noted that the ISEX Road project, inaugurated during activities marking President Bola Tinubu’s third anniversary in office, had recorded steady progress, with the contractor assuring the administration that it would be ready for commissioning in December.
“This road will open up the entire area for development. We are satisfied with the pace of work and believe the contractor will deliver the project as promised,” he said.
The minister also inspected another section of the ISEX Road project, originally awarded in 2014 but left incomplete by previous administrations.
According to him, the contractor has undertaken to complete six kilometres of the road and its major interchanges before the end of the year, subject to the release of funds already appropriated in the national budget.
“We have appealed to the Minister of Finance because the project is already captured in the budget. Once the funds are released, the contractor will be able to meet the agreed deadline,” Wike said.
He reiterated the federal government’s commitment to completing inherited projects, stressing that continuity in governance remained essential to sustainable development.
“President Tinubu directed that inherited projects should be completed to safeguard public investment and ensure value for money. Responsible leadership is about completing projects that benefit the people, not abandoning them because they were initiated by previous administrations,” he said.
Wike stated that abandoned infrastructure projects had previously slowed development in the nation’s capital, noting that their completion would enhance mobility and stimulate economic activities across the FCT.
During the interaction with journalists, the minister also commented on political developments in Rivers State, welcoming Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s reported reconciliation with his political associates.
He said the governor’s decision to reunite with the political family that supported his emergence would foster unity and strengthen political cooperation in the state.
Responding to questions on whether the reconciliation amounted to forgiveness after months of political disagreement, Wike said politics should not be viewed in terms of personal grievances.
“In politics, there is no sin. If someone recognises that a mistake has been made and decides to correct it, there is nothing wrong with that. What is important is making the right decision,” he said.
The minister also expressed confidence that the reconciliation would strengthen political collaboration ahead of the 2027 general election.
The inspection formed part of the FCT Administration’s routine assessment of ongoing infrastructure projects expected to be completed before the end of the year as part of efforts to improve road networks, expand access to developing districts and enhance transportation across Nigeria’s capital.
