The Nigerian government has officially soft-launched the Government Service Portal (GSP), marking a major milestone in the country’s push toward a connected, transparent, and citizen-focused public sector.
The portal developed by Galaxy Backbone (GBB) in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation & Digital Economy (FMCIDE) and the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) serves as a single digital gateway for citizens and businesses to discover, access, and consume public services from various government institutions.
Delivering the keynote address at the official launch in Abuja, the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Engr Nadungu Gagare, described the initiative as a significant step towards building a more efficient, transparent and citizen-centred public service.
Represented by the Director of E-Government Johnson Bareyi, the Permanent Secretary commended Galaxy Backbone for spearheading the initiative and acknowledged the support of KOICA, implementation partners and public servants whose contributions made the project possible.
According to him, the Government Service Portal is more than a digital platform, representing the outcome of deliberate collaboration among government institutions to make public services faster, simpler and more accessible to Nigerians.
He explained that the portal provides citizens with a single, secure gateway through which they can access multiple government services without repeatedly submitting the same information across different agencies.
“The GSP provides Nigerians with a single digital gateway to access government services through a single secure sign-in. Rather than navigating multiple agencies and repeatedly submitting the same information, citizens will increasingly enjoy a simpler and more seamless experience.”
“Most importantly, it improves the everyday experience of citizens by making government services more accessible and responsive. This is the true value of digital transformation. I am pleased to report that the GSP Portal has reached a level of maturity that makes this possible.”
He added that the portal would work alongside the Nigerian Digital Exchange to enable secure data sharing among authorised government agencies, allowing citizens to provide their information once while government institutions securely exchange the required data.
He urged Ministries, Departments and Agencies to collaborate closely with Galaxy Backbone to accelerate the integration of their services into the platform, stressing that today’s launch marked the beginning of a broader national digital transformation journey.
In his welcome address, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Galaxy Backbone Professor Ibrahim Adeyanju described the Government Service Portal as another important milestone in Nigeria’s digital transformation journey.
He explained that Galaxy Backbone, as the Federal Government’s digital infrastructure and shared services provider, has spent more than two decades developing the technological foundation required for secure and efficient government operations through its nationwide fibre optic network, Tier III and Tier IV data centres, cloud services, cybersecurity infrastructure and shared digital platforms.
He emphasised that the GSP is far more than a website, describing it as a unified digital gateway through which citizens and businesses can easily discover, access and consume government services from a single location.
According to him, the platform addresses the long-standing challenge of fragmented service delivery, where citizens often navigate multiple websites and government offices to obtain public services.
“For far too long, citizens have had to navigate numerous websites, offices and service channels to interact with Government. Businesses often spend valuable time searching for the right agency, understanding different processes and completing repetitive administrative requirements.”
“While individual agencies have made remarkable progress in digitising their services, the citizen’s experience has remained fragmented. The Government Service Portal (GSP) seeks to change that.”
“By bringing government services together under one trusted digital gateway, we are simplifying access, improving visibility, promoting consistency and creating a more seamless experience for everyone who interacts with government.”
Describing the event as a soft launch rather than a full rollout, he said the pilot phase would enable pioneer agencies to integrate their services, gather user feedback, strengthen system performance and refine platform capabilities before nationwide deployment.
He called on all Ministries, Departments and Agencies to integrate their services into the portal, stressing that every additional service increases the value of the platform for Nigerians and businesses alike.
Speaking on behalf of KOICA Country Director Mr Kim Eunsub, Senior Deputy Country Director Mr Baik Ki-hyun described the launch as the flagship achievement of the four-year “Building Foundations Towards Digital Governance in Nigeria” project.
He said the Government Service Portal demonstrates what sustained technical cooperation between Nigeria and the Republic of Korea can achieve.
According to him, the portal transforms the concept of a one-stop government service platform into a practical reality that citizens will soon experience.
“For KOICA, this is more than the unveiling of a new platform. It is the visible, tangible outcome of a partnership that has spanned four years, under our project on Building Foundations Towards Digital Governance in Nigeria.”
“As the project draws to a close this year, the GSP stands as its flagship achievement: the clearest evidence of what sustained cooperation between Korea and Nigeria can produce. Everything we set out to build together: the frameworks, the systems thinking, and the institutional capacity, finds its expression today in a platform that citizens across this country will soon use to access government services from a single point of entry.”
Reaffirming KOICA’s continued partnership with Nigeria, he stressed that digital governance requires continuous improvement, adaptation and sustained institutional commitment beyond the completion of development projects.
