The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr Nyesom Wike, has said the long-delayed Apo-Karshi Road project is expected to be completed by December 2026, as the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) intensifies efforts to improve road infrastructure across Abuja.
The Minister also disclosed that between eight and ten major road projects are scheduled for completion before the end of the year, subject to contractors meeting agreed timelines.
Wike made the remarks after inspecting the ongoing Apo-Karshi Road project in the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) and the Bwari-Kubwa Road project in Bwari Area Council.
He said construction work had advanced considerably on the Apo-Karshi Road, a project originally awarded in 2010 but abandoned for more than a decade before the contract was terminated and re-awarded to SCC Nigeria Limited.
According to the Minister, installation of streetlights has commenced along sections of the road, signalling progress towards its completion.

Speaking on the administration’s infrastructure programme, Wike said work would continue throughout President Bola Tinubu’s tenure, stressing that project delivery remains a key priority.
“Has the tenure of Mr President ended? Certainly not. His first tenure will end on May 29, 2027. If that is the case, it means the work has also not ended,” he said.
At the Bwari-Kubwa Road project site, the Minister acknowledged the engineering challenges posed by the terrain and urged the contractor to adhere strictly to the project’s delivery schedule.
He assured residents that the FCTA would continue to provide the necessary funding to support ongoing construction and minimise delays.
Wike said the administration remained optimistic that between eight and ten strategic road projects would be completed before the end of 2026.
The Minister also emphasised the need to sustain public confidence through the timely execution of projects.
“One thing you must always know is that when the people have confidence in you, don’t allow that confidence to erode. They have seen it as a promise made and a promise fulfilled. So, we’ll continue with that and not let them down.”
He added that inspections of ongoing projects would continue across the FCT, including satellite towns, to monitor progress and ensure contractors comply with approved specifications and completion schedules.
