WOW Africa Advocates Women’s Health, Education for Societal Growth

Stakeholders at the Worldwide Organisation for Women Africa (WOW Africa) Conversation held in Awka, Anambra State, have stressed the need for women to place greater emphasis on their health and family values to foster sustainable development and societal growth.

The one-day event, which drew women, students and young girls from different backgrounds, focused on issues relating to health awareness, family orientation and personal development.

Participants were encouraged to pursue their goals while making meaningful contributions to their communities.

WOW Africa, founded by Chief Mrs Carol Ugochukwu, is committed to improving the lives of women and girls across the continent through empowerment initiatives, community engagement and leadership development programmes.

Speakers at the gathering praised the organisation’s founder for creating a platform that promotes discussions on challenges affecting women, families and society.

They noted that the initiative continues to encourage advocacy for gender inclusion, social responsibility and human development.

The Anambra State Head of Service, Barrister Ngozi Iwouno, highlighted the importance of maintaining both physical and mental health among women.

According to her, healthy women are central to building strong families and a productive society.

She also advocated the elimination of harmful cultural practices and called for increased investment in education and continuous learning.

In a presentation titled “Healthy Women for a Sustainable Society,” former Chief Medical Director of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Amaku, Awka, Dr Joe Akabike, encouraged women to embrace preventive healthcare measures, including regular medical examinations.

He noted that women play a significant role in shaping the moral values of future generations.

Representing the Anambra State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs Oge Unegbe described women as vital agents of social transformation. She urged them to adapt to changing societal realities by paying closer attention to family life and the proper upbringing of their children.

Also speaking, WOW Africa South-East Coordinator, Mrs Ethel Eruchalu, said the forum provided an avenue to address pressing issues affecting families and communities.

She commended the organisation’s founder for establishing a platform that promotes dialogue and practical solutions to challenges confronting women and society.

The event concluded with renewed calls for women to prioritise their well-being, strengthen family bonds and contribute actively to sustainable community development.
