Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema has reappointed Situmbeko Musokotwane as Finance Minister following his re-election in last month’s presidential election.
Musokotwane took the oath of office on Monday during the swearing-in ceremony for members of Hichilema’s new cabinet.
He has served as Finance Minister since 2021 and played a key role in Zambia’s prolonged debt restructuring negotiations after the country became the first African nation to default on its sovereign debt during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The reappointment comes as Zambia seeks to agree on a new programme with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) by the end of the year.
Musokotwane is expected to continue leading the government’s efforts to strengthen the country’s finances and manage its debt obligations.
