A group known as The Movement for the Restoration of Good Governance and another also referred to as The Northern Senatorial District Youth Renaissance Assembly have endorsed Senator Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe, the Peoples Democratic Party’s northern senatorial district candidate, for another term.

The groups, who separately endorsed Senator Jarigbe during his campaign and tour of communities in Yala local government areas pointed out that for equity, justice and fairness, the senator, who is from Ogoja local government area, should be allowed to continue at the senate.

Senator Jarigbe became the first Ogoja son to be elected to the senate in Fifty (50) years following a by-election conducted after the demise of Senator Rose Okoh from Yala in 2021.

Positive Contribution
A community leader from Yala local government area, Emmanuel Okoh, noted that Senator Jarigbe was positively contributing to the growth of the communities by attracting infrastructure such as roads and water projects, agriculture and other forms of people empowerment programmes to the district.

The coordinator of the Movement for the Restoration of Good Governance, Mr. Emmanuel Agba said, “all the other four local government areas of Obanliku, Bekwara, Obudu and Yala have occupied the senatorial seat. Late Senate President, Senator Joseph Wayas was there in 1979 to 1983, Senator Kanu Agabi held the position in 1999, while Senator Musa Adede took over from 1999 to 2003.

“Senator Greg Ngaji came on board in 2003 and left in 2011, Professor Ben Ayade, the governor held that seat from 2011 to 2015 and then came late Senator Rose Okoh from 2015 until her demise and by 2021 for the first time in 50 years, Senator Jarigbe from Ogoja became the senator of Cross River north,” he stated.

Agba reasoned that Ogoja has been marginalized, noting “clearly Ogoja has been marginalized and therefore Jarigbe should be allowed to continue in the senate in line with the spirit of brotherhood and equity. We in the north gave Governor Ben Ayade four years in the senate and eight years as governor of Cross River State. We expected that after these years, he should allow another person.”

Also speaking, the coordinator of the Northern Senatorial District Youth Renaissance Assembly, Mr. Raymond Takom said the district has been magnanimous in its support for the political ambitions of the governor.

Takom, who noted that the district was yet to directly reap the benefits of some of the projects instituted by the incumbent governor, added “the current occupant of the Cross River northern senatorial seat, Senator Jarigbe was doing well and the people are solidly behind him. For now, we do not have any vacancy in the senate.”
