2027: Rivers Governor Declares Support for President Tinubu, Chinda

By Iquo Williams, Port Harcourt

The Governor of Rivers State, Southern Nigeria, Siminalayi Fubara has declared his support for the second-term bid of Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu and the governorship ambition of Kingsley Chinda ahead of the 2027 General election.

The Governor made the declaration during the groundbreaking ceremony of the Riven Medical Industries Project in Port Harcourt the State capital, describing the development as the beginning of a new era of peace, unity and collaboration in Rivers State.

Fubara disclosed that the previously divided political forces in the state had resolved their differences and agreed to work together in the interest of peace, stability and development.

He said that as “a loyal member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), he had aligned himself with the Rainbow Coalition, the political platform championed by his predecessor and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike to advance the interests of the ruling party.”

Calling on his supporters to embrace reconciliation, the Governor urged them to jointly support President Tinubu, Kingsley Chinda and other APC candidates in the forthcoming elections, stating an end to the era of political conflict with renewed focus on unity and collective progress.

According to him, anyone who believes in his leadership should support the Rainbow Coalition, saying “I have returned to this political family and will not be associated with any action capable of creating division in Rivers State”.

He reiterated his commitment to maintaining peace and fostering an atmosphere that would encourage development as well as attract investment into the State.

Medical Project
On the Riven Medical Industries Project, the Governor described it as a landmark investment that would strengthen the state’s industrial base, create employment opportunities and improve healthcare delivery even across Nigeria.

He cautioned contractors against the failure to honour agreements reached with the state government, resulting in abandoned projects and prolonged legal disputes.

He expressed confidence that the current investors possess the technical and financial capacity to successfully execute the project.

The Governor further urged the contractors to adhere strictly to the agreed implementation timeline, expressing optimism that the first phase of the project would be completed within three months.

He also appealed to the host communities and the leadership of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area to provide a peaceful and supportive environment that would guarantee the smooth execution of the project.

The Riven Medical Industries Project is a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) between the Rivers State Government and Enbay Pharmaceutical Industries Limited.

When completed, the facility would manufacture pharmaceutical formulations, gelatin capsules, intravenous infusions and Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API), significantly boosting Nigeria’s local pharmaceutical production capacity by reducing imports and strengthening the country’s healthcare value chain.

The project is expected to generate jobs, promote technology transfer, attract domestic and foreign investment and position Rivers State as Nigeria and West Africa’s pharmaceutical manufacturing and healthcare investment hub.
