2027: Women Back President Tinubu’s Re-election

By Salihu Ali, Kaduna

Women leaders and political supporters from various groups have declared their support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027, urging the Nigerian Government to intensify investment in women’s empowerment, agriculture, healthcare, and youth development.

The women made their positions known while speaking with Voice of Nigeria Correspondent on the sidelines of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential campaign rally in Kaduna.

A former Plateau State Commissioner for Tourism, Cecilia Merwakadi-Elkora, said; ”President Tinubu deserved another term to consolidate the achievements of his administration.”

Merwakadi-Elkora said the President had introduced initiatives that benefited women and young people, expressing optimism that a second term would provide an opportunity to expand the programmes.

“He has done a lot. He has done so many good things for us. So, we want him to come back to continue from where he started,” she said.

Merwakadi-Elkora, however, urged the President to give greater attention to agriculture and healthcare, describing the sectors as critical to improving livelihoods and national development.

Another supporter, Florence Jankanwa, called for increased government attention to women and young people, stressing that both groups had important roles to play in the country’s development.

Jankanwa said empowering women and youths would strengthen their capacity to contribute meaningfully to national growth and support vulnerable members of society.

She maintained that greater inclusion of women and young people in government programmes would help address some of the country’s pressing social and economic challenges.

Similarly, Nendel Mwase Zuka called on President Tinubu to expand women’s empowerment programmes and ensure greater female participation in Nigerian politics.

Zuka also identified youth empowerment as an important strategy for tackling insecurity, arguing that providing young people with opportunities could reduce their vulnerability to criminal activities.

“If he empowers the youth, I’m sure that it will cut out the issue of insecurity,” Zuka said.

The women expressed confidence in women’s readiness to support President Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election, citing ongoing mobilisation efforts as evidence of their commitment.

They also referenced the activities of the campaign’s women mobilisation director, Dr. Beta, including hospital visits, as part of efforts to connect with communities and strengthen grassroots support.

“The 10 million votes is not a joke. We are fully ready on the ground to give Mr. President our support,” she declared.

The women’s appeal highlights the importance of agriculture, accessible healthcare, inclusive political participation and economic opportunities for young people as issues likely to feature prominently in discussions ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Their comments also underscore the role of women-led mobilisation in political campaigns, as parties seek to expand their grassroots support and persuade voters across the country.
