A Nigerian Artist, Sylvester Aguddah has called for more attention to Creative Arts.

He made the call during his art exhibition in Lagos State.

According to Aguddah, every piece of artwork has a hidden message the creator wants to express that will create an impact in people’s lives, hence the need for more attention to the messages of the art.

Mr Aguddah explained that his recent works were done with bright colours which were capable of giving hope to the depressed because he noticed that so many Nigerians were going through depression due to the harsh economic situation that is ravaging the country.

He encouraged everyone in the country to be more positive and put their trust in God believing that things will get better.

”Right now, I am focusing on putting out positive works because a lot of people are going through depression. My works are very bright colours, when you put my works in your space, it brings encouragement. In addition to the colours, stay positive. do not allow the things around you shot you down. Also, pray as you put your hands at work,” he added.

He, therefore, advised younger artists to use their talents to make a difference in humanity

On her part, the curator, Ifeanyichukwu Oraemeka called for a conducive environment for all the art creators in the country saying that the fastest way to improve the economy is through artwork that cannot be taken away from tourism.

”You cannot separate art from tourism. If we get more support from the government and private sectors, there is so much the country will achieve,” she stated.

According to an art collector at the exhibition, Bode Dada ”Appreciation for art in Nigeria has not been impressive. There is the need for more awareness and more art exhibitions to enable the general public to understand the art context.”

The exhibition which was tagged My Art; Your Space” featured more than fifty artworks that were rich in colour, with lovely African motives and patterns.
