People from Gombe Central Senatorial District and other political stakeholders in Gombe State have appealed to Senator Muhammad Danjuma Goje not to go ahead with his resolve to retire from active elective politics.
The calls came from various political stakeholders across all eleven local government areas of the state during the unveiling Goje Legacy Project in Kumo, Akko LGA, all of who called on Senator Goje, former Governor of the state to reconsider his decision.
The speakers said they decided to host the event in order to collectively voice out their support for the senator, because of the exceptional leadership qualities he possessed in touching the lives of people beyond his senatorial district.
It will be recalled that the Senator representing Gombe Central Senatorial District had in December 2019, decided to bow out of active elective politics, meaning that he would not vie for any elective office in 2023.
Senator Goje said his decision to retire from active politics was borne out of the fact that he had achieved a lot from political life and decided to make way for others to equally contest.
Speaker-after-speaker at the programme in Kumo Akko Local Government Area of the state, all tried in their own words to persuade Senator Goje to renege from actualising his resolve to leave active elective politics.
For the immediate past Senator of Gombe South Senatorial District, Senator Joshua Lidani, who served as the Special Guest at the occasion, all three senatorial districts in Gombe State could testify of Senator Goje’s services reaching them and touching their lives positively.
For one, he said Senator Goje was elected by North East Senators to serve as the Chairman of their Forum during the 7th or 8th Senate, because of his leadership style, which subsequently led to the bill establishing the North East Development Commission.
“Today, we have the North East Development Commission, which carrying out various development projects across the North East, including Gombe State. Most of you know that the federal Polytechnic Kaltungo has already taken off. The bill for its establishment was introduced by me, but I had to seek for Senator Goje support, which came in strong during the Second Reading. Today the Federal Polytechnic Kaltungo is a reality,” said Senator Lidani.
While appreciating the various efforts and interventions of Senator Goje, Senator Lidani pleaded with him to consider the appeal by the people and continue the good works he has been doing for the overall benefit of Gombe and Nigeria as a whole.
Similarly, the Member Representing Yamaltu Deba Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Yunusa Abubakar, pledged that because of the excellent works carried out by Senator Goje, they would carry out all campaigns for him and ensure that he answers their call and comes back to serve the people of Gombe State the same way he is doing now.
From Gombe North Senatorial District, Hajia Aishatu Jibrin Dukku, the member Representing Dukku/Nafada Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, while pleading with Senator Goje to remain in active political service said there was no one like him, more so because of some of them who were following his footsteps and would want to learn more from him.
“So, Senator Muhammadu Danjuma Goje, continue. 2023, we will come from all over Gombe State to make sure that In-Sha-Allah, Senator Goje wins the election in Gombe Central. Let me say that he is one person that is so humane. He listens to his people, he supports his people and he stands for his people. And that is the type of leadership we want.,” Hajia Aishatu said
Other speakers, including the Speaker of the Gombe State House of Assembly, Mr. Abubakar Luggerewo and the Chairman of Akko Local Government Area, Alhaji Abubakar Barambu, who equally joined their voices to those calling on Senator Goje to renege his decision to retire from active elective political office, all said he should know that his works have touched many lives than he could imagine, thereby urging him to continue.
There were various displays of banners, shirts, attires and songs all calling on the senator not to go, with youths chanting Oyoyo to him.
