The Ondo State Governor in southwest Nigeria, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has assured residents of his commitment to food security and creating job opportunities through agricultural development while prioritising the safety of farmers across the state.

Senior Special Assistant to Governor Aiyedatiwa on Agriculture and Agribusiness, Rotimi Akinsola, told journalists in Akure, Ondo state capital, that military officers have been deployed to Akure North Local Government Area of the state for security.

“Our forests are safe. Over 22 officers are on the ground in the Akure North local government area to secure the land and allow investors and farmers to return without fear.”

According to him, securing farmlands is crucial for attracting investors and enabling large-scale cultivation.

Akinsola further highlighted the administration’s plans to engage youths in agriculture through Governor Aiyedatiwa’s agribusiness policy, which includes the establishment of sanatorium farms to promote modern farming practices.

“With improved land access and security, we can encourage more young people to pursue careers in agriculture, thereby reducing unemployment and strengthening food production,” he added.

The aide noted that the state has 16 forest reserves, and ongoing security measures will ensure the reserves are effectively utilised for agricultural investments.
