The Kwara State House of Assembly has passed the 2026 Appropriation Bill approving a total budget of ₦656.5 billion, representing an increase of ₦10.5 billion over the initial proposal submitted by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.

The Speaker of the House, Engineer Yakubu Danladi Salihu, disclosed this at the plenary on Friday following the consideration of the report of the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation.

A breakdown of the revised budget shows that the state’s recurrent revenue has increased to over 409,600,000,000 (four hundred and nine billion, six hundred million naira), reflecting an upward review of about ten billion, five hundred million naira.

Meanwhile, recurrent expenditure was reduced to two hundred and twelve billion, six hundred million naira, a cut of over six billion, four hundred million naira, in line with efforts to strengthen fiscal discipline.

The Speaker further explained that transfers to the Capital Development Fund have been raised to two hundred and seventy-one billion naira, up from two hundred and fifty-four billion naira, to boost funding for capital projects across the state, adding that the total debt servicing for the 2026 fiscal year now stands at fourteen billion, two hundred million naira, slightly higher than the earlier proposal.

Engineer Danladi said the adjustments were made to ensure prudent financial management and to support the effective implementation of government programmes and projects in Kwara State. He praised the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation, under the chairmanship of Ariola Fatimah Lawal for a job well done.

The Speaker further appreciated the heads and officials of all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) in the state for their cooperation and support to the House during and after the ministerial project presentations across the various sectors.

The Speaker, directed the Clerk of the House to prepare and transmit a clean copy of the budget to the Governor for his assent.
