Wike Hails Satellite Road Development in Abuja

By Hudu Yakubu Abuja

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has expressed satisfaction with the ongoing road project linking Gomani to Yangoji in Abuja, describing it as part of President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to expanding infrastructure beyond city centres and opening up satellite communities under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

Speaking during an inspection of the project in Abuja on Thursday, Wike said the Tinubu administration deliberately prioritised the development of rural and satellite communities to reduce rural-urban migration and improve connectivity across the FCT.

According to him, the road project is part of a wider infrastructure drive that began with the A2-Pai road, inaugurated by President Tinubu during his second year in office.

“Recall that when we came on board, one of the directives of Mr President was that development and infrastructure should not be concentrated only in the cities. We must open up the satellite towns to discourage rural-urban migration,” Wike said.

He explained that the ongoing 13-kilometre Gomani-Yangoji road project was awarded to Zeberced Construction Company, the same firm that handled the A2-Pai road project.

The minister noted that work on the road had reached an advanced stage, with the bridge already launched and drainage works about 90 to 95 per cent completed.

“From what we have seen, it is clear that we are encouraged by the pace and quality of work. The bridge has been launched, the drainage systems are nearly completed, and the contractors are now constructing the streetlight pillars,” he stated.

Wike disclosed that the road would be among projects scheduled for inauguration during activities marking President Tinubu’s third anniversary in office this June.

He commended Zeberced Construction Company for delivering quality work and adhering to agreed timelines.

“I commend the contractor, Zeberced, not only for delivering quality work but also for keeping to the timeline and ensuring the road is ready for inauguration in June. I am pleased with the progress,” he said.

The minister also praised the management and staff of the company for their commitment to completing the project.

He stated that the President would be delighted to see development reaching underserved communities across the FCT.

“I believe that when Mr President visits here, it will give him great joy to see development extending to all the satellite towns,” Wike added.
